Snorkel Audio releases Additive Synth (VST3 & AU)

Snorkel Audio has released Additive, an additive synthesizer for macOS and Windows.

Instead of starting with a complete waveform and filtering parts away, Additive builds each note from harmonics. Set their levels, then give every harmonic its own movement: some can pulse together while others drift, shimmer, or move in the opposite direction. Shape the sound from within, from bright, bell-like plucks to resonant basses and evolving pads.

Draw a spectrum by hand, choose a shape, or use Random to find a starting point. Additive keeps every generated value editable. Bands and Slope set the spectral roll-off, while Bulk adds a resonant peak with its own position, width, and height. Draw two spectra and Morph between them by hand or with modulation, then assign the XY pad and Z axis to the controls you want to perform.

Highlights:

  • Harmonic bank: shape up to 50 harmonics by drawing, choosing a shape, or using Random.
  • Individual movement: set each harmonic’s LFO depth, phase, and rate independently.
  • Morphing spectra: draw two spectra and move between them with a control, LFO, or envelope.
  • Separate roll-off and resonance: shape Bands and Slope independently from Bulk’s position, width, and height.
  • Modulation: four LFOs with nine shapes, including Drawn, Stepped, and Ramped, plus tempo sync and four envelopes.
  • Performance controls: assign modulation to the XY pad and Z axis, with Z responding to the mod wheel or note velocity.
  • Built-in effects: Delay, Reverb, Drive with six characters, compression, and EQ.
  • Presets and sound shaping: more than 100 presets, four themes, mono or poly play, detune, chorus, stereo, and per-voice drive.

Pricing & Availability

Additive is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats for EUR 29 during the launch offer, more than 70% off the regular EUR 99 price.
