Segment CPH has released their first plugin, Palora, a polyphonic virtual-analog synthesizer for macOS and Windows (VST3, AU, Standalone).
Palora is a full-range subtractive synth built around the wish to create a powerful synthesizer that is simple to use and versatile enough to provide sounds for a complete electronic track.
Alongside twin morphing oscillators, a sub and a dual-character ladder filter, every voice carries its own click generator and transient shaper, so the snap of a pluck or the thump of a bass is shaped per note. With a modulation matrix and a built-in arpeggiator, your sounds come to life in an innovative environment. You even get a five-stage effects chain to quickly set the right mood.
Palora started out as a pluck synthesizer for my deep house tracks, but I quickly realized its potential as a full-blown virtual-analog synth. I have developed software for many years and for a long time I have wanted my experience as a developer to merge with my hobby as a music producer. So I created Segment CPH, and the first plugin, Palora, is a beautiful and playful instrument that I am really proud of.
I made its preset schema open to allow everyone to make and share presets easily. Palora comes with 310 factory presets, and I realized that I couldn’t do all of them on my own, while also tackling development, so I created an AI brief that lets an AI create presets or preset banks. Most of the factory presets in Palora were first crafted by AI, then hand-polished by me.

- 16-voice polyphony or mono, with up to 4 unison copies per voice.
- Two oscillators with a continuous saw → triangle → sine morph, pulse and PWM, and hard sync, plus a sub oscillator and a per-note click layer (noise, FM or sub body).
- A 4-pole ladder filter with two characters from one set of controls: a warm, self-saturating Analog ladder and a clean Modern ladder.
- A per-voice transient shaper: add snap to the attack or weight to the sustain, on every note independently.
- An 11 × 24 modulation matrix — 264 routings, all able to run at once — with 3 LFOs, a spare envelope, a per-note random source, 2 macros, velocity, key tracking, mod wheel and aftertouch. Every route is shown live.
- An arpeggiator/step sequencer of up to 24 steps, with swing and tempo sync.
- Five effects in one chain: Drive (Warm, Soft, Hard, Wild), stereo Chorus, stereo Delay, Reverb (Room, Hall, Plate, Spring) and an output EQ.
- 310 factory presets plus Init, across Pluck, Bass, Pad, Lead, Keys, Stab and Drone. Presets play themselves as you browse.
- An open, human-readable preset format — an AI assistant can write a preset or a whole pack from a plain-language description.
- MIDI Learn for most controls.
- Responds to velocity, mod wheel, aftertouch, pitch bend and sustain pedal.
