Ross Audio has updated Substance, a bass processor for VST3 hosts and a standalone app on Windows and Linux, to v1.0.4.
Substance starts with a 30-second Learn My Bass read of the instrument (attack, dynamics, noise and string response) and builds a starting point from it.
Five engines, Tequila, AI Mentor, Joker, Future Adviser and N.I.N.A., change how the processing behaves, not just the preset name.
Sub, drive, modulation, octaves and space extend the tone while the original signal stays at the centre.
New since the first public release:
- 1.0.4: on Linux the standalone is now an application, with its own icon in the application menu, and uninstall.sh removes everything the installer added.
- 1.0.3: the standalone no longer opens with the audio input muted, and the plug-in follows the input channel that actually carries the bass, so a bass on input 2 of an interface is heard.
Saved sessions sound exactly the same as before, on both platforms.

Substance Free has no time limit. Every Pro feature can be tried for 15 days. Substance Pro costs $59, one payment, with 1.x updates included, for up to two computers. Windows x64 and Linux x86_64 (glibc 2.30 or newer), VST3 and Standalone. macOS is on the roadmap.
