Force56 Audio Software has released Thunder660 Drums VST, a sample-based virtual drum machine based on the sounds and workflow of the classic Boss DR-660 drum machine.
Designed for producers, retro hardware enthusiasts and musicians looking for the distinctive character of early-90s digital drum machines, Thunder660 Drums VST brings the complete sound collection of the DR-660 into a straightforward, modern instrument for Windows and macOS.
Thunder660 Drums VST includes all 255 drum and percussion sounds sampled from original Boss DR-660 hardware. Its 16 playable pads provide independent volume, pan and tuning controls, with a ±24 semitone tuning range allowing each sound to be tuned across two full octaves.
The plugin also includes recreations of the original DR-660 factory pad banks, including their A and B variations, providing ready-to-use starting points based on the original hardware while allowing users to modify and save their own custom drum kits.
The goal is simple: preserve the large and distinctive sound library of the DR-660 while making it immediately accessible inside a modern DAW, without external sample libraries or vintage hardware.
