Bitlantis has updated Kveik, a MIDI step sequencer plugin for drums, bass and melodies, to version 1.4. Kveik makes no sound itself and sends MIDI to drum instruments, synths or hardware inside the DAW.
New in 1.4:
CC sequencing:
- A new CC track mode sends MIDI controller values instead of notes, with up to three independent curves and up to two targets per curve.
- Glide turns steps into ramps for filter sweeps and slow fades.
- Pitch bend and channel aftertouch are available as targets.
- Every note track also has two CC lanes that send a controller value with each hit.
- The MIDI export now contains the controller data.
Loops everywhere:
- Every block has its own loop range, set with two flags. A right-click saves the loop range as a new block.
- Each parameter (velocity, gate, pitch, probability, shift, roll, chord, arp, glide, CC) can run at its own length against the notes, for example notes over 16 steps and accents over 5.
- A whole arrangement can be converted into a new block.
Standalone app:
- Play/stop and tempo in the header, MIDI output with channel selection and optional MIDI clock.
- On macOS a virtual MIDI port “From Kveik” is available. The Windows installer now includes the app as well.
More:
- HOLD: a note that runs into the same notes keeps sounding instead of retriggering, so pads hold across loops and blocks.
- The line tool shapes curves while drawing.
- The pitch dice can roll semitones, scale notes, fifths or octaves only.
- MIDI import with drum maps (General MIDI, EZdrummer/Superior Drummer, TR-808/909, XO and more) and channel selection.
- The step grid follows the time signature of the host, including 6/8 and 12/8.
- A more compact Standard layout (32 steps visible) is the new default and can be changed in the settings.
Fixes include Logic Pro (AU) running out of sync at sample rates other than 48 kHz, notes on an audio buffer boundary that could drop or double, tempo automation triggering notes twice, pitch bend, aftertouch and sustain staying set after stop, and several issues when reordering or deleting tracks. macOS 12 is now the minimum system version.
