Parish Audio has released Parametric Compressor, a new dynamics plugin that allows independent compressor bands to be placed anywhere in the frequency spectrum.

Unlike a conventional multiband compressor, Parametric Compressor does not require the signal to be divided into fixed adjacent crossover bands. Each compressor band can be positioned independently, made narrow or broad, and overlapped freely with other bands.
Up to 10 compressor bands can be created. Each band includes Frequency, Width, Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, and Makeup controls. Frequency and Width determine the part of the spectrum where compression is applied, while the remaining controls determine how that region is dynamically processed.
Bands can be used for focused frequency control, widened to affect larger regions of the spectrum, or expanded to full width for traditional broadband compression.
Each band also includes independent detector controls. Users can select the main input, an external sidechain, or both as the detector source, and choose whether the detector responds to the selected frequency region or the full signal.
This allows the area being compressed and the signal triggering that compression to be configured independently. For example, an external sidechain can trigger gain reduction only in the low-frequency region of another track without reducing the level of the entire signal.
