Vienna Symphonic Library has released BBO Harps, a new sample library featuring three harps recorded performing together at Vienna Synchron Stage. The latest addition to the Big Bang Orchestra series includes synchronized glissandos, chords, bisbigliandos, and orchestral effects designed for film, television, and game scoring.
BBO Harps features new recordings of harpists Tina Žerdin, Veronika Villányi, and Magdalena Fürntratt performing together on Stage A. Rather than layering individual harp recordings, VSL captured the musicians as an ensemble, allowing their phrasing, timing, and dynamics to interact naturally.
Each harp was recorded using two different close microphones, supplemented by mid, Decca tree, surround, and high surround microphone setups. These perspectives allow users to adjust the balance between close detail and the room acoustics of Synchron Stage.
Glissandos, Chords, and Orchestral Effects
BBO Harps uses pre-recorded ensemble performances to reproduce passages that would be difficult to perform simultaneously using a conventional keyboard. Users can select a scale or mode and key, then trigger synchronized performances with a single note.
The library includes ascending and descending glissandos in multiple tempos and lengths, with support for all keys and modes. Chord performances are also available across different keys and scales.
Additional articulations include bisbigliandos, looped performances, and random playing for sustained or evolving textures. Gong and thunder effects extend the library into more percussive and experimental territory.
