Scrap Brain Audio announced the release of WX, a compact synthesizer built around controlled randomness and probability-based sound generation.
Instead of presenting users with dozens of parameters, it deliberately employs a limited interface to keep the focus on the process of exploration. Sounds are generated entirely at random by double-clicking on the radar display, randomizing parameters such as oscillator shape, filter type and settings, ADSR behavior, effect balance, drift, and modulation.
Rather than producing purely noisy sounds, the randomization system has been mathematically optimized through detailed statistical analysis to generate musically usable results.
Key Features
- Synth Architecture: Multi-voice oscillator engine featuring analog-style detune spread, a multi-mode scan filter, and dynamic envelope loop modulation.
- 1-Click Sound Generator: Double-click the radar screen to generate from billions of unique patch possibilities.
- Built-in FX Suite: Integrated STFT Signal Loss, Decimator (Bitcrusher), Stereo Chorus, Delay, and Reverb for instant tone shaping, lo-fi degradation, and spatial width.
Pricing & Availability
WX is available for $12 in VST3 and standalone formats for Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit, from scrapbrainaudio.com. macOS AU and VST3 support is currently in development.
