M Media Audio has released The New Yorker, a dual-channel Vari-Mu bus compressor for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Here’s what they say:
Most compressors turn things down. The New Yorker glues things together with the gluiest glue imaginable. Drop it across a drum bus and the first thing that hits you isn’t gain reduction, it’s instant cohesion; kick and bass locking onto the same cycle, a vocal that sits inside the track instead of riding on top of it. Load the Aggressive Pump preset, bury both VU needles, and hear what real Vari-Mu glue does to a mix that’s begging to sound like one instrument instead of six.
Turn it on and it adds harmonic weight you feel before you can name it. This is glue with attitude, for engineers who want their bus compressor to sound like a decision, not a utility.
Three Channel Modes
- Stereo mode links both channels for classic linked bus glue, the whole mix breathing as one.
- Dual mode cuts the channels fully loose for independent threshold, attack, release, ratio, saturation, and output on each side.
- Mid-Side mode turns Channel A into the mid signal and Channel B into the side, so the center and the width can be compressed completely independently â glue the center hard for punch while keeping the sides open and airy, or flip it around.
The Mix Knob
Blend the fully compressed signal against the dry signal, per channel, for classic New York-style parallel compression. Push it up for full glue, pull it back for punch and dynamics in the same breath.
The New Yorker ships with eight factory presets built as real starting points, from Subtle Glue to Aggressive Pump to Wide M-S Glue, plus unlimited user presets with A/B instant recall and full import/export. Two large analog-calibrated VU meters switch between gain reduction and output level so you can watch the glue happening, not just hear it.
