tokyomeltdown has released version 2.0 of EQ Mirror, an update to its analysis plugin for macOS that shows the frequency response an EQ is actually applying. The update adds a second plugin, EQ Mirror Dock, covered by the same licence.
EQ Mirror Dock hosts the EQ itself. It lists the AU and VST3 EQs installed on the Mac; the selected EQ’s own interface opens below the curve, and the curve follows each control as it is adjusted, including while the transport is stopped. Pointing at the curve displays the level and frequency at that point.
The audio passes through the hosted EQ only, and the Dock reports that EQ’s latency to the host. The curve is drawn by measuring a second, silent instance of the same EQ with test noise at the level of the programme material.
In Pro Tools the Dock runs as AAX and hosts the AU or VST3 version of the EQ. The hosted EQ cannot be automated from the host.
The original EQ Mirror, a pair of instances inserted before and after an EQ, remains available unchanged and continues to support EQ automation. In version 2.0 the background spectrum is also tilted by 3 dB per octave, so a balanced mix reads roughly level.
Pricing & Availability
EQ Mirror 2.0 is available in AU, VST3 and AAX formats for macOS 12 or later, runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel, and is signed and notarized. It costs $18 as a one-time purchase covering both plugins on up to five Macs, with a 14-day trial that has every feature and requires no account. The update is free for existing owners.
