Unusable Engineering has released Quadrant Modulator, a four-quadrant multiplier and ring-modulation effect for macOS and Windows.
Quadrant Modulator uses a modified version of the visual oscillator from Curves & Membranes. The incoming audio is multiplied by a drawable Bézier/Node waveform, allowing the same oscillator to be used for four-quadrant modulation, amplitude modulation and one-shot amplitude shaping.
The oscillator can run freely from LFO to audio rates, follow the pitch of a side-chain or main input using a phase-locked loop, or play one complete waveform cycle when triggered.
An 8-slot sequencer stores waveform geometry, oscillator rate, shape and overflow settings. Rates can be host synchronized or quantized to a selected note set, with MTS-ESP support for microtonal tuning. Per-slot Rate Slew allows selected pitch transitions to slide while others change immediately.
Other features include Clean and diode-inspired multiplication modes, positive or inverted wet-signal feedback, Clip/Fold waveform processing and tube-style output limiting.
Though the core process is amplitude- and ring modulation, it is quite capable of a wide array of effects.
