Sonuscore has released LUX Orchestral Brass, a sampled orchestral brass library for Native Instruments Kontakt Player. Designed for film scoring, orchestral composition, and music production, the library features solo and section instruments, up to six recorded dynamic layers, automatic voice distribution, and performance-based articulation control.
Recorded on the same scoring stage as LUX Orchestral Strings, the library captures brass instruments in their natural orchestral seating positions. Its dynamic layers range from pianissimo (pp) to fortississimo (fff), capturing changes in timbre as well as volume.
The instrument collection includes solo French horn, trumpet, and tenor trombone, along with horn, trumpet, and trombone sections, bass trombone, bass and contrabass tuba, and cimbasso.
Performance and Articulation Control
LUX Orchestral Brass includes True Legato for solo and section instruments, along with Sonuscore’s Seamless Articulation Transitioning (S.A.T.), which allows users to change articulations during sustained notes without retriggering.
Adaptive patches respond to playing style and note duration, while morphing articulations allow transitions between playing techniques. The library also includes tempo-synchronized repetitions, customizable keyswitches, and Polyphonic Aftertouch support.
For section instruments, Auto Divisi distributes incoming MIDI notes among individual players while maintaining the original ensemble size. Polyphonic legato allows independently moving melodic lines within a section.
An Ensemble Instrument provides ten brass combinations and twelve voicing configurations. Its Intelligent Note Selection system automatically distributes MIDI notes across the selected instruments, allowing composers to perform orchestrated brass arrangements from a single keyboard.
Microphone Positions and Mixing
The library was recorded using 53 microphones, including dedicated bleed microphones positioned across other orchestral sections to capture acoustic spill.
Six adjustable microphone perspectives are available: Close, Mid, Tree, Far, Brass Bleed, and Orchestra Bleed. A prepared Full Mix is also included for users who prefer a preconfigured microphone balance.
