Orchestral Tools releases Eavan – Dedicated to traditional Irish folk instruments

Orchestral Tools has expanded its Creative Soundpacks series with the release of Eavan, an intimate sample library dedicated to traditional Irish folk instruments and experimental textures. Curated and produced by Frederik Theyssen, the collection delivers a close, detailed sound designed for traditional arrangements, modern songwriting, and cinematic textures.

Instrument Selection and Articulations

Eavan features a curated set of four core acoustic Irish aerophones alongside traditional percussion. Recorded at Resonance Studio in Berlin, the library captures the physical details of each instrument within a tight acoustic environment.

The collection includes:

  • Irish Aerophones: Spry tin whistle, traditional Irish flute, and concertina.

  • Percussion: Meticulously sampled bodhrán strikes, thumps, and performance techniques.

The library offers up to 19 articulations per instrument, capturing standard folk ornaments, conventional performance styles, and sustained, wistful exhalations. In addition to the purely acoustic captures, Orchestral Tools has included 13 processed patches (comprising four pads, six keys, and three plucks) that transform the original sound sources into sound design tools suitable for a wider variety of modern genres.

Seamless Workflow Integration

Eavan runs natively in Orchestral Tools’ proprietary SINEplayer. The interface allows users to manage system resources efficiently by providing advanced features built for modern scoring workflows:

  • Mic Merging: Users can fine-tune their mix using three distinct microphone positions (including close, detailed perspectives) and then merge those signals into a single resource-efficient channel within the player.

  • A la Carte Downloads: SINEplayer allows users to download only the specific instruments, processed patches, or microphone setups required for their project, saving local storage space.

  • On-the-Fly Customization: Standard workflow enhancements like automatic keyswitch mapping and easy MIDI control remapping are supported out of the box.
