Notewerks has updated StepStrum, its real-time MIDI strumming sequencer, to v1.1.
StepStrum turns chords played on a MIDI keyboard into tempo-synced performances for guitar libraries, synths, samplers and other virtual instruments. Version 1.1 expands the sequencer beyond full-chord strums, allowing patterns to combine strummed motion with individual notes from the held chord.
New in StepStrum 1.1
- Four single-note step types: Low, Mid-Low, Mid-High and High.
- Full strums and individual chord notes can be combined within the same pattern.
- Single-note selections automatically follow the harmony as the performer changes chords.
- StepStrum Pro users can switch between pattern slots using MIDI keyswitches.
Strums and Single Notes
The new single-note types select notes by their relative position within the chord rather than using fixed MIDI pitches. When the performer changes chords, the pattern follows the new harmony. This allows a single pattern to move between upward and downward strums, picked notes, rhythmic pulses and melodic figures while the chords remain under the performer’s control. All four single-note step types are included in both StepStrum Lite and StepStrum Pro.
Pattern Keyswitching
StepStrum Pro 1.1 adds MIDI keyswitching for its eight pattern slots. Users can switch patterns from a MIDI keyboard or controller, making it easier to perform rhythm variations, fills and different song sections without using the mouse.
Pattern keyswitching is exclusive to StepStrum Pro.
Availability
StepStrum 1.1 is a free update for existing users. StepStrum Lite is free, while a StepStrum Pro license key is available for $39.
