M Media Audio releases Lake Ontario, Leadfoot, and Dualtronix Plugins (Plus Reference Player is now free on Windows)

M Media Audio has announced the release of three new plugins and a major pricing change on the desktop player. Here’s what’s new:

Lake Ontario

Lake Ontario pairs a Vari-Mu compression engine with a full 4-band EQ on every channel.

Features:

  • Low and High shelves, Low-Mid and High-Mid bells, fixed Q, freq and gain at your fingertips.
  • Threshold, Attack, Release, and a 4-position Ratio (1.5:1 / 2:1 / 4:1 / 6:1) shape the glue; an always-on micro-saturation stage keeps things warm even with the Saturation knob at zero.
  • Stereo, Dual, and Mid-Side modes cover everything from a stable mastering bus to fully independent left/right character.
  • The EQ Order switch reorders the whole signal path – sculpt the tone before it hits the compressor, or let compression happen first and shape what comes out the other side.
  • Auto Level trims output to hold loudness where it started, so the processing can be judged on its own merits instead of a volume trick.
  • Nine factory presets cover subtle bus glue, vocal warmth, drum bus punch, a transparent mastering setting, and a Mid-Side widening preset.

Leadfoot

Leadfoot is a complete kick drum processing channel strip.

Features:

  • Gate, EQ, transient shaping, compression, saturation, and a blendable sub generator, built around one source instead of merely sporting a kick-sounding name.
  • Gate and a focused EQ (switchable-slope HPF/LPF plus three parametric bands for thump, body, and beater click) get the source clean before anything else touches it.
  • A classic two-knob Transient Shaper punches the attack forward or softens it, independent of the compressor, which is built for exactly this job: stepped ratios up to 20:1, Auto attack/release, and a Mix knob for parallel blending.
  • Saturation is an audible, driven stage – sneak it a hidden kiss or push it to filth.
  • The Sub Generator adds a blendable low-end thump or sustained tone under the kick, off until you dial it in.
  • Seven factory presets cover trap, rock, pop, metal, lo-fi, and broadcast/podcast use.

Dualtronix

Dualtronix is a dual-channel opto leveling amplifier built around the simple, primitive control set that’s made this style of hardware sound consistent for decades – Gain and Peak Reduction, nothing to overthink.

Features:

  • Two genuinely independent channels, each with its own Power switch and its own Meter, so you can bypass or re-meter one side without touching the other.
  • Link ties both channels’ entire control set together for classic two-bus glue, or turn it off and run two completely different characters side by side – one gentle, one driven hard, in the same unit.
  • Auto Level is there because it’s genuinely smooth in this application – engage it and the “louder always sounds better” illusion goes away, and what’s left is some character from the reduction, not a volume bump doing the convincing.
  • A genuine Comp/Limit switch changes the character, not just the number – Compress for a light touch, Limit for a hard, opto-driven wall.

Reference Player

Reference Player is now free on Windows – no longer $29, no trial clock, no crippled “free edition.”

The same mastering-grade signal chain is still underneath every track whether you touch a knob or not: VCA-style bus compression, a full 31-band graphic EQ with ISO center frequencies, and a brickwall limiter, alongside real-time spectrum, phase, and BS.1770 LUFS metering, and two large RMS-based VU meters that are the actual centerpiece of every view. Six live-switchable themes now ship instead of five, recoloring the whole player instantly with zero restart.

The only paid feature is disc burning – a one-time $5 unlock covers MP3 and FLAC data discs plus true Red Book and loudness-matched audio CDs, on one computer, forever, no subscription.

This release also cleans up a batch of real-world issues: improved M4A playback, correct library column resizing, window sizes remembered between sessions, and general playback and interface fixes throughout.
