KarmaStation has made KarmaKick free – it is now pay-what-you-want with no minimum, so it can be downloaded at no cost (previously €19).
KarmaKick is a kick drum synthesiser: it generates the sound rather than playing back a sample. The pitch drop sits on three controls on the front panel — start, end and time — because that drop is what gives a kick its attack. Next to it are amp decay, drive, click, output level and a compressor, with four waveforms. Everything is on one screen, with no pages and no menus.
Six factory presets cover techno, hard techno, psytrance, drum and bass, dubstep and trap, intended as starting points rather than a library to browse. User presets save and recall from the menu at the top. The standalone version includes a built-in step sequencer, for building a pattern without opening a DAW.
