A-Tom Soundware has released KANAL42, a saturation plugin designed to capture the character, density and feel of pushing a vintage cassette multitrack input.

The plugin uses the interaction between DRIVE and TRIM to explore different ways of pushing the saturation stage. DRIVE changes both the amount and character of the saturation, continuously shaping asymmetry, bass response, pressure and high-frequency character. TRIM controls how hard the input is driven into the saturation stage.
Different combinations of DRIVE and TRIM create different saturation characters, allowing users to find their own sweet spot. Bass and Treble controls provide additional tone shaping, while Dry/Wet allows the processed signal to be blended with the original.
Price: €27 – KANAL42 is available for macOS VST3 and AU, and Windows VST3. A demo version is also available with the same audio processing as the full version, with a periodic mute limitation.
