sonible has announced the release of puffer:fish, a free saturation effect designed for streamlined workflows and creative sound shaping. The plugin features three distinct saturation modes and a simplified control set, providing a range of harmonic enhancement from subtle warmth to aggressive distortion.
The processing is centered around a “Puffiness” control which dictates the amount of saturation applied to the signal. As the gain is increased, the signal becomes denser and more harmonically rich. To provide visual feedback, the interface features an interactive meter that responds to the intensity of the processing.
Three Saturation Characters
The plugin offers three switchable modes that define the harmonic profile of the saturation:
- Tinyfin: Provides smooth, rich saturation suitable for adding subtle warmth to tracks.
- Twitchgill: A versatile mode capable of scaling from moderate warmth to more intense saturation.
- Spikeskin: The most aggressive setting, designed for high-gain distortion and grit.
The interface is intentionally minimalist, eschewing traditional presets and deep menus in favor of immediate tactile control. Despite the playful visual aesthetic, the underlying algorithms are built to the same technical standards as sonible’s professional utility and AI-assisted processing tools.
Pricing and Availability
puffer:fish is available now as a free download in VST, VST3, AU, AAX formats (macOS and Windows).
