Forma Labs Audio has released Filament 1.2.0, a free update to its real-time MIDI orchestration plugin and plugin host for composers and producers.
Filament hosts up to 64 instruments within a single DAW track, distributing and revoicing incoming MIDI across orchestral libraries, synths and layered setups.
Version 1.2.0 adds per-note expression, automatic voice distribution and a workflow for moving between live orchestration and DAW editing.
Key Features:
- MPE support: Per-note pitch bend, pressure and timbre follow the orchestration to MPE-enabled hosted instruments, with expression preserved in MIDI recording and export.
- Auto Divisi: Distributes chord notes across connected parts, doubling notes when needed and preserving the outer voices when there are more notes than parts.
- Host Mode: Record an orchestration, drag its MIDI into the DAW, edit the individual parts and play them back through the same hosted instruments.
- Note Off Revoice: Choose whether remaining notes redistribute when keys are released.
- Arpeggiator chord following: Sustained notes can follow chord changes while shared pitches continue without retriggering.
- Clearer routing: Routes from other input layers remain visible, with indicators showing which layers contain routes.
- Keyswitch labels: Orchestration names remain visible and follow slots when copied or swapped.
- Matrix Mute/Solo: Optional controls accessible directly from output rows.
- CC curve controls: Values appear while dragging, with Shift for finer adjustments.
- Improvements to MIDI recording and export, hosted plugin window recall and interface rendering.
