The long awaited 4-channel device boasts creative control over patterns by means of detailed per-step controls, timing divisions, randomization, probability and more.
Erica Synths has a longstanding reputation as a manufacturer that follows a certain philosophy and methodology when it comes to the design of their products. The Latvian company founded by Girts Ozolinš in 2014 is known for producing some of the most iconic modules and systems for Eurorack and their latest is an all-in-one sequencer.
The Black Sequencer can be used to create and save up to 256 patterns of 1-64 steps. There are four channels that each offer a CV, gate and modulation output and the device has one input and output each for MIDI, Reset and Clock.
All parameters are controlled per step via the sixteen contextual encoder knobs, including CV/Pitch, Gate, Modulation, Glide, Ratchet, Probability and Repeat. The per-track controls are also comprehensive, allowing for different shuffle and timing division settings for each of the individual four tracks.
Other highlights include a random pattern generator, multiple LFOs, envelope generators, parameter randomization and microtonal tuning possibilities. An SD card slot has also been added for backup and firmware updates.
Erica Synths have described their newest entry in the Black series, which focuses on hi-fi quality, as intuitive, easy and straightforward to use and they believe it will “become a master controller for many modular setups.”
The Black Sequencer will start shipping from December onwards for a price of €510 plus tax.
