ThaLoops has announced the release of Cello Shots, a virtual cello instrument that turns a real acoustic cello into a rhythm machine. It’s built for beatmakers, music producers, and composers; aimed at hip-hop, trap, R&B, and pop production.
Instead of long bowed notes, Cello Shots focuses on the percussive side of the instrument: slaps, hits, textures, and one-shot riffs, recorded from an acoustic cello performed by an academically trained cellist and mapped across the keyboard.
The instrument features four sound banks:
- Slaps: playable slapped cello notes for chord progressions, basslines, and melodies.
- Low Percussion: deep, woody hits for layering under drums.
- High Percussion: tight accents that cut through a mix.
- FX: vinyl crackles, sweeps, scrapes, and textures made on the body and strings of the cello.
Cello Shots also includes 21 Riff presets with 506 one-shot cello samples. Riffs, bends, licks, chops, and chords in 5 keys (A, C, D, E, G) at 4 tempos (90–120 BPM), playable at any tempo and in any order.
