WireGrind has released Tremphatic, a new VST tremolo plugin.
Features include threshold-triggered modulation, 21 LFO waveforms, rule-based settings to control the number of LFO cycles, tempo-synced controls with five different note types, internal/external sidechaining, and ducking.
Modulation Triggering
The effect’s LFO switches on and off depending on the signal level. This is the effect’s core feature, and it helps to align the modulation with individual notes. It works similarly to a compressor because it uses a threshold, but instead of applying gain reduction, it applies modulation.
LFO Cycling Rules
Tremphatic has a “Number of Cycles” parameter that specifies how many LFO cycles follow each trigger. The precise meaning of the number depends on the cycle mode. There are three modes: “at least,” “at most,” and “exactly.” These are applied literally to the “Number of Cycles.”
21 Waveforms
Tremphatic has 21 different modulation waveforms. These include well-known waveforms, sinusoid, triangle, sawtooth, and square, along with a larger set of more unusual ones.
5 Note Types
Tremphatic’s tempo-syncable parameters have five note types: singlet, duplet, triplet, quadruplet, and quintuplet. Instead of being grouped by type, the notes are listed together as fractional whole notes. They’re sorted by duration for easier scrolling.
Features Made Possible by Triggering
In addition to LFO cycling rules, the triggering mechanism also enables several other features. These include sidechaining, ducking, lookahead, and modulation onset delay. Onset delay, essentially a pre-delay, adds a short pause between the trigger and the start of modulation. This can be used to let transients pass cleanly before the modulation begins.
Additional features include linked and independent channel-processing modes, trigger signal filtering, and a scope for the trigger signal.
