Windows-G releases E-Expander600 – JSFX Expander Plugin

Windows-G has announced the release of E-Expander600, a JSFX expander plugin for REAPER that features both upward and downward expansion modes:

  • The upward expansion mode can be used for restoring dynamics to heavily compressed or limited tracks, sidechain upward expansion to make a track increase in volume dynamically in response to another track, and for emphasizing transients or the body of drums or percussion.
  • The downward expansion mode can be used for removing unwanted noise and bleed from recordings, rhythmic gating effects, gated reverb, music/vocal ducking, and general downward dynamic range expansion.

E-Expander600 also features two detection source modes (Main Input and Sidechain Input), lookahead control (0 ms to 20 ms) for preserving transients, gain control (-30 dB to +30 dB) for boosting or attenuating the detection signal, three channel detection modes (Stereo, Left Only, Right Only), and adjustable high-pass (10 Hz–20 kHz) and low-pass (20 Hz–21 kHz) filters for sculpting the detection signal to prevent unwanted frequencies from triggering the expander.

Additionally, it provides two level detection modes (“Peak” for fast expander response, and “RMS” for slower response). RMS mode uses the RMS window (1 ms to 1000 ms) to control averaging time.

Control the expansion action using the upward ratio control (1.0 to 10.0) or the downward ratio control (1.0 to 100), along with threshold (–100 dB to 0 dB), hysteresis (0 dB to 30 dB), hold (0 ms to 1000 ms), and range (-100 dB to 0 dB). Shape the envelope with exponential attack (1 ms to 1000 ms) and release (1 ms to 5000 ms) curves.

The GUI includes a detection level meter, gain reduction/output meter, and filter status indicators. The Filter Preview button solos the detection filters, and the Invert/Duck button flips the downward expander’s behavior for sidechain ducking. A dedicated bypass button allows click-free toggling of the expansion effect, while a delta button isolates the difference between the wet and dry signals to reveal what the expander is removing or adding.

Pricing & Availability

E-Expander600 is available now for $14.

This JSFX plugin can also be used in other DAWs through the open-source YSFX plugin. YSFX is available in VST3, AU, and CLAP formats for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
