It is easier than ever to get your music out there, all your need is a good recording and an internet connection. But what is the best way to promote your music? Here are some of the best ways to get your name out there.
If you are lucky enough to perform live, make sure you capitalise on the exposure by making your own merchandise. You might get peanuts for your live performance, but selling merchandise can be a great way to make a respectable amount. The great thing about merchandise is it will help people to remember you. Have some Poster Design at the ready along with CD’s and t-shirts to help keep people talking.
Get on playlists
It only takes for your music to get on one or two public playlists to help it to be discovered. If your friends have Spotify or YouTube, ask them to include your music on their playlists. Youtube has been part of Billboard rankings since 2013, and now the other streaming services have slowly been added to the mix. If you are on playlists, especially public lists that can be shared, this helps your chances of being caught up in the algorithms and becoming a hit.
Build your social media
Social media is your biggest ally when it comes to self-promotion. Not only can you share your latest track, but you can also share news of upcoming events, important updates, and connect with the people who will be supporting your journey. Make the most of social media and use it to your advantage. How you choose to engage on social media is up to you, just remember to use it to share your music and what you do to make it happen.
Depending on your genre, you might want to collaborate with other artists. Everyone is trying to get somewhere in the music industry so this is something that you can take advantage of. Plus, the people you collaborate with may help you out and introduce you to their connections too. Even if someone is outside of your genre, it may be worth your while working with them because it can open your work up to a different audience. Just look at Run DMC and Aerosmith when they worked together on Walk This Way. They were both incrediably successful in their own genre, but together, they were a powerhouse.
Make good music
One of the easiest ways to promote your music is to let it speak for itself. We know that there are a lot of artists out there who make bad music, but that doesn’t mean that you should too. Of course, you might be your own worst critic and think your music could be better. But if you know that you can do better, and the feedback that you are getting says that you should do better, then you need to work a bit harder on your craft. Because if you are making good music, it will speak for itself.
