Voidscan Audio has released Parasite, a dirty FM synthesizer.
Three operators, six algorithms, and a distortion stage that runs on each voice instead of the output.
It has two faces. The Home panel keeps only the controls that decide what the sound is, around a creature that moves with the voice. Everything else sits behind an Advanced button, and every knob on the front page exists there too.
The most unusual thing in Parasite is its random button, over engineered on purpose. Instead of throwing a random value at every parameter, it follows an algorithm of its own. It lands on something usable far more often than it has any right to. Mutate is the same recipe with an amount knob on it: wide open it arrives where Random would, and below that your own patch drifts that far towards it. Knobs slide, waveforms jump, and anything you locked stays where you left it.
The rest of it:
- Three drawable LFOs, Serum style, onto any parameter. Filter cutoff, reverb size, delay time, whatever you want moving.
- Three macros on the front page, and a Time macro that runs the whole patch slower or faster.
- A filter, a pitch envelope, a delay and a reverb.
- Liquid and Rubber, two effects that push the sound towards those materials.
- A Volume Shaper that works as a gater, and a drive and a fold to ruin things further.
- 153 presets in eight categories, written by sound engineers. Drums and FX are 66 of them, which tells you what this thing is good at.
- Build preset packs from your dashboard, and send one to another Parasite user in one click from inside the plug-in.

The demo is the whole plug-in. It goes quiet for a moment every 30 seconds, and that is the only difference.
