With a remix for Procombo’s new track “Dogu” released this week on RX Recordings, we caught up with Steve Rachmad one of the most prolific house and techno producers from The Netherlands over the past 30 years.
What’s the first record you ever bought?
The Commodores – Lady (You Bring me Up) in 1980 when I was 10 years old.
It was the only 7inch single I ever bought because after this I found out about 12 inches which contained longer versions including instrumentals and/or dub versions which I really love.

The first time you remember hearing electronic music?
That’s a hard one to say which/ what was the first time.
Could have been something from maybe J.M.Jarre or Vangelis in the ’70s or maybe even the track Popcorn. But when I started buying records it was mostly based on something electronic like a Moog bass or synth stabs and brasses. Most of my studio is based upon the records I bought when starting out.

The guilty pleasure?
Smoking joints.

The record everyone loves but you hate?
Oh, there are many of those haha!
It happens a lot that many people like a certain record and I don’t.
Carl Craig’s remix of Theo Parrish “Falling Up” is definitely one of them haha! Everyone likes it and I hate it…!

The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?
Lately for me a list called Not Quite Classical on Spotify. It contains about 70 or 80 tracks and all very chill with lots of strings and pianos and nice melodies. My go to playlist lately.

The record you’re proudest of?
Also a hard one to choose. I did soooo many and maybe I still have to produce the record that I’m most proud of.
It’s too easy to say Secret Life of Machines now. So for now I will mention my latest album called The Beauty and the Sea.
It’s a bit of a different side of me because it was made and based on a book “The Outlaw Ocean” from journalist Ian Urbina who wrote about all bad stuff happening at sea and asked artists to contribute music based on the book as an experiment to bring music and journalism together.
