Softube has announced the release of the Weiss DS5 Multiband Compressor, a digital dynamics processor developed in collaboration with Weiss Engineering. The plugin functions as a five-band multiband compressor, utilizing line-by-line code ports of the Weiss DS1-MK3 algorithms for each individual band.
The processor is designed for mastering, mix bus, and individual track applications where transparent frequency-dependent dynamics control is required. While the interface utilizes macro controls for streamlined operation, users can access the full Weiss DS1-MK3 parameter set for each of the five bands by expanding the interface.
Technical Specifications and Filtering
The Weiss DS5 Multiband Compressor features phase-compensated 24 dB/octave crossover filters designed to minimize pre- and post-ringing artifacts. The plugin offers three distinct filter modes to balance phase response and latency requirements:
- Dynamic Phase: Optimized for low-latency performance with adaptive phase correction.
- Static Phase: Standard phase-compensated filtering for consistent response.
- Linear Phase: Ensures zero phase shift across the frequency spectrum, suitable for mastering applications where latency is not a primary concern.
The unit also includes a newly designed safety limiter to manage output peaks while maintaining the low-latency characteristics of the Dynamic and Static phase modes.
Key Features
- Five independent bands of Weiss DS1-MK3 dynamics processing.
- Macro controls for simultaneous adjustment of multiple bands.
- Access to deep-level DS1-MK3 parameters for precision tweaking.
- Three crossover filter modes: Dynamic, Static, and Linear Phase.
- Includes factory presets from engineers Bob Katz, Jonathan Wyner, Maor Appelbaum, and Philippe Weiss.
- Low-latency architecture suitable for both tracking and mixing.
Weiss Complete Collection 3
The release of the DS5 coincides with the launch of the Weiss Complete Collection 3, which bundles the new multiband compressor with Softube’s existing range of Weiss-licensed processors.
