Roland has unveiled the TR-1000 Rhythm Creator, a new drum machine that combines a true analog engine, digital modeling, and stereo sampling capabilities.
Built on the legacy of the company’s iconic TR series, the TR-1000 aims to bridge classic workflows with modern sound design. It features Roland’s first new analog drum machine engine in over 40 years, with 16 circuits from the TR-808 and TR-909 recreated from original designs but with expanded controls and dynamic range.
Alongside the analog components, the TR-1000 includes powerful digital engines. Roland’s Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology provides emulations of classic circuits, including 21 new “circuit-bent” models based on the 808 and 909. The digital side is rounded out with FM percussion, virtual analog synthesis, and a deep library of PCM samples.
Sampling is fully integrated into the workflow, offering stereo sampling and resampling, BPM sync, time-stretching, and non-destructive slice editing. The unit comes with 64 GB of internal memory (46 GB free) and is pre-loaded with a collection of 2,000 samples.
For sound shaping, the TR-1000 includes both analog and digital effects. There’s a new analog state-variable filter (SVF), a dedicated analog drive circuit, and a suite of digital effects like crusher, filter, isolator, and flanger. Reverb and delay sends are available for each track, along with a selection of master effects.
The sequencer expands on the classic TR-REC step input with real-time recording, off-grid options, motion recording for parameter changes, per-step probability, and a comprehensive song mode for arranging full tracks.
On the performance side, the hardware features a hands-on layout with high-grip knobs, faders, and durable RGB step keys. New additions include a “Morph” slider for macro control over multiple parameters and a “Snapshot” feature to instantly recall knob positions on a per-track basis.
