Reyes Amps has updated TRIODE, the component model of its own boutique tube amplifier, to version 1.5. The update goes deeper into tube math, adds impulse responses, and lowers the price to $19.99.
The v1.5 model solves the entire tube circuit implicitly rather than stage by stage. The previous version modeled each stage separately. Solving the whole circuit at once tracks the interaction between the triode preamp and the pentode output more closely, particularly under heavy drive where the stages load each other.
I make a boutique tube amp with a very simple circuit. Then I modeled that simple circuit and the result is very accurate triode distortion/saturation. All the plugins I make have that original tube amp model DSP included in them.
The added impulse responses are level-matched, so switching cabs no longer changes output level. Bug fixes in this release cover the MIX knob phase alignment and the amp OUTPUT control routing.
TRIODE remains a model of a 1959 Harmony H303, a 4 watt single-ended Class A circuit built on ‘All American Five’ radio tubes. Most tube saturation is “tanh” waveshaping. TRIODE uses Koren and Dempwolf tube models, which account for the tubes’ actual plate characteristics and grid current: authentic transfer curves, asymmetrical clipping, and the bias shift that comes with drive.

Free Models
The original model is free as Reyes 303: the pure circuit, one knob, Alnico speaker IR. Kill Filter, also free, is a super-resonant DJ-style filter with a kill switch and the same tube stage in its path.
