Reverential releases Boethius – Free Polyphonic Synthesizer for macOS (VST3, AU & CLAP)

Reverential has announced the release of version 0.1.0-alpha.2026-09-15 of Boethius, a free polyphonic synthesizer for macOS.

I’m Daniel, and I’m building Boethius in public, one feature at a time. Each voice has eight oscillator slots, and every slot has its own waveform, gain, pan and ADSR envelope, so one note can change character as it plays out.

You can download Boethius now at reverential.com. No registration is required to download BUT my intention (not promise) is to reward my early users by offering the product free forever. Create an account if you want that benefit.

This release adds the sustain pedal and pitch bend (±2 semitones), and fixes notes that could hang.

Features:

  • 8 oscillator slots per voice: sine, saw, square or triangle, each with gain, pan and a full ADSR.
  • Band-limited single-cycle wavetables. Worst-case inharmonic content is -74.1 dB, against -15.6 dB for a naive saw.
  • 32 voices, with a 2 ms fade when a voice is stolen.
  • 65 host-automatable parameters.
  • Saves and recalls its settings with your project.
  • No copy protection, and no account needed to download.

Availability

Boethius is alpha software. It will change between versions, and those changes may cause projects saved in your DAW to load incorrectly, lose automation, sound different, or fail to load at all. Do not use it for work you cannot afford to lose or redo — render your audio to files and keep backups.

Substantial portions of Boethius were developed with the assistance of generative AI tools, under human direction, supervision and review.

Boethius is free and is available in Standalone, CLAP, VST3, AUv2 and AUv3 formats for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel).
