zplane has released PEEL STEMS 2, a major update to its powerful real-time stem separation plugin.
Lower Latency And Updated Separation Engine
PEEL STEMS 2 runs on the latest version of zplane’s proprietary real-time stem separation technology. According to the company, processing latency has been reduced from 483 ms to 245 ms at 44.1 kHz, while Intel Macs continue to be supported with a stated processing latency of 385 ms.
That reduction is relevant because latency can affect how practical a separation tool feels during a session. Offline stem separation can be useful for preparation work, but real-time operation inside a DAW allows users to audition changes while arranging, mixing or experimenting with sample material. Lower latency may make the plugin more suitable for active production workflows that require quick decisions.
zplane also says separation quality has been improved, with cleaner results and fewer artefacts. The plugin includes controls to isolate stems and refine audio through spectral processing, allowing users to focus on specific frequency and stereo ranges.
Speaking about the launch, Tim Flohrer, Co-Founder and CTO of zplane, said: “With PEEL STEMS 2, we wanted to push real-time stem separation within DAW-native workflows further. With significantly reduced latency and improved audio quality, PEEL STEMS 2 represents a major step forward in stem separation technology.”
Interface Changes And Workflow Features
The release includes a redesigned graphical interface with new stem colours and clearer visual feedback. The Focus EQ Focus Frame now displays upper and lower cut-off frequencies, while the isolation slider has been given a broader control range. There are separate controls for drums, bass, vocals and other material, alongside a central spectral-style display.
PEEL STEMS 2 is designed for AU, VST3 and AAX-compatible DAWs but stem processing takes place locally, meaning users do not need to upload audio files to cloud-based systems. That may be important for artists, labels and engineers working with unreleased music or commercially sensitive material.
What’s new at a glance
- Latency almost halved from 483ms to 245ms @ 44.1kHz*
- Enhanced audio quality means cleaner stem separation with fewer artefacts
- The isolation slider now has a greater effect and a broader range of control
- The Focus EQ Focus Frame now shows the upper and lower cutoff frequencies
- Improved and updated GUI with new stem colours
- *Continued support for Intel Macs (processing latency of 385ms)
Pricing And Availability
PEEL STEMS 2 is priced at €59, with an upgrade from PEEL STEMS version 1 available for €19. There’s also a free trial available.
