Parish Audio has released Vocal Smoother, a new vocal processing plugin designed to reduce harshness, sharp sibilance, and distracting resonances while helping vocals retain their clarity, presence, and natural tone.
Vocal Smoother analyzes the incoming signal and responds dynamically as problem areas appear. Rather than applying a fixed tonal cut across the entire performance, it reduces resonance, harshness, and sibilance only when they become prominent. This makes it suitable for vocals that sound overly bright, edgy, uneven, or tiring without requiring several separate corrective processors.
A central Smooth control sets the overall processing intensity, while dedicated Resonance, Harshness, and Sibilance controls allow each area to be adjusted independently. The Focus control shifts the processing toward darker or brighter frequency regions, and Preserve Air helps maintain openness and high-frequency detail when stronger smoothing is applied.
Vocal Smoother includes three voicing options:
- Balanced – a general-purpose response for a wide range of vocals.
- Bright – tailored for clear, airy, or naturally bright vocal tones.
- Aggressive – firmer control for forceful performances and more pronounced harshness or sibilance.
Vocal Smoother can be used for subtle cleanup on a well-recorded lead, stronger control on an aggressive hook, spoken-word processing, podcasts, narration, and other sources that need a smoother and more controlled high-frequency response.
