OVNI Audio has released two free and open-source plug-ins: Orbit, a binaural movement plug-in for macOS and Windows, and Supernova 0.4.0, an audio-reactive visual synth for macOS.
Orbit
Orbit places a sound anywhere around the listener’s head and moves it: an orbit, a fixed position, or a fly-by with real Doppler. It is a variable-position HRIR spatialiser – two bracketing voices crossfade with fractional-delay ITD, so the source moves without clicks. Under a metre it applies Duda-Martens near-field proximity, with bass bloom and asymmetric ear shadow. The Doppler is not a pitch shifter: the pitch change emerges from the propagation delay itself.

- Radar – drag to place the source in 3D, angle and distance on one screen.
- Rate – free, tempo-synced from 1/4 to 1 bar, or fixed placement.
- Speed, radius, height and chaos – chaos adds erratic motion, with darting speed and azimuth wobble.
- Width and room – ear-shadow width plus decorrelated early reflections that push the sound outside the head.
- Output – headphones, or speakers with crosstalk cancellation. An IN PHASE switch guarantees mono compatibility.
Orbit is available for macOS and Windows VST3 and AU.
Supernova 0.4.0
Supernova 0.4.0 turns an image, a photo sequence or a video into a cloud of 262,144 GPU particles that move, glow and burst with the audio. It runs as a VST3 and AU plug-in inside a DAW, and as a standalone app that captures the Mac’s system audio with no drivers and no routing. The audio itself is never altered: bit-exact pass-through.
Features:
- 50 worlds – presets that swap physics, geometry and colour in one click.
- Four control domains – Movement (flow, chaos, gravity), Matter (size, trails, plexus, glyphs), Camera (3D depth, rotate, orbit) and Colour.
- Colour Lab – 17 look ramps built in OKLab, plus a 3D cutout of the subject that can be rotated, with order-independent additive blending.
- MIDI triggers – a note can explode the field or shoot a directional ray.
Version 0.4.0 adds cross-dissolves between images: the particles now blend from one picture into the next instead of cutting, however the change is fired. The exported clip was also fixed so it matches what is on screen, its soundtrack is thirty seconds long instead of twelve, and its loop point no longer clicks.
Supernova is macOS only, macOS 11 or later, signed and notarised by Apple, universal binary. VST3, AU and standalone app.
