Noisebud has released NBB ToC (To Center), a new stereo processor for Windows and macOS designed to improve mono compatibility without simply narrowing the mix.
When a stereo mix is summed to mono, some elements can become quieter, change character, or almost disappear completely. The usual solution is often to reduce stereo width. ToC takes a different approach by analyzing what is actually being lost and applying frequency-dependent correction only where it is needed.
The plugin is built around two complementary repair methods:
- Resonance Repair looks for stable frequency areas that are strong in the Side signal but weak or missing in mono. Selected parts of this spectral information are then represented in the center, allowing an instrument to retain more of its identity in mono without moving the entire instrument toward the center in stereo.
- Phase Repair looks for frequency areas where similar information exists in the left and right channels but destructive interchannel phase causes it to weaken when summed to mono. It adjusts the relative phase while preserving the level relationship between the channels and therefore the original level-based panning.
The two repair methods can be used simultaneously. When both are active, ToC adapts how much each method contributes so they work together rather than correcting the same problem twice.
ToC also includes Width, an independent stereo widening processor. Width is optional and can be used, for example, to restore some perceived stereo width after improving mono compatibility.
Before processing, the user plays a representative part of the track and presses Analyze. ToC analyzes the incoming audio for 10 seconds and uses the resulting data for Resonance Repair and Phase Repair.
Dedicated Mono and Side monitoring are included. Mono monitoring remains active when the plugin is bypassed, making it possible to compare the original mono sum directly with the processed result.
NBB ToC can be used during production, mixing, or mastering.

NBB ToC is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU plugin formats and is distributed through Noisebud’s Patreon-based model.
For $7/month, paying Patreon members get access to 40+ Noisebud plugins, Reaper scripts, and tools. Active membership provides access to the full versions, while $7 in Noisebud Credits is added to the user’s account each month and can be accumulated toward permanent licenses.
A permanent NBB ToC license can already be obtained in two ways. Paying Patreon members receive $7 in Noisebud Credits each month, so staying subscribed for six months provides enough Credits for a permanent license. Alternatively, users can contact Noisebud directly and the purchase can be arranged manually. A dedicated self-service purchase option will be added later.
