Noisebud makes Purr-Static, a LUFS-based compressor, free during alpha (VST3 & AU)

Noisebud has announced that Purr-Static, an experimental LUFS-based compressor and loudness rider, is now available as a free download while in alpha.

Purr-Static is designed to slowly and transparently adjust gain based on a user-defined LUFS target. Instead of behaving like a traditional compressor, it gently rides the level over time, making it suitable for dialogue, podcasts, voiceover work, and dynamic music.

Users set a LUFS target, and the plugin gradually adapts the signal toward that target. It can be used to lift quieter material, control louder sections, or subtly manage loudness without adding obvious compression artifacts.

A key part of the current alpha version is improved handling of silence and very quiet passages. This helps the plugin behave more predictably when moving between silent and loud sections, making it more practical in real-world use.

Purr-Static also includes experimental features such as selectable LUFS measurement modes (Momentary, Short-term, and Integrated), plus an invert mode that can push the signal in the opposite direction of the normal gain adjustment.

Although still in development, the plugin has already proven useful in practical scenarios. Noisebud notes that Purr-Static remains an alpha product and may continue to change over time.
