Mixes Of The Week: 3/7/17

This week’s top mixes include Native Instrument’s Amphibian Trails, Martyn’s Hip Hop Special, Cosmic Slop Dripping into Dimensions, and Shanti Celeste Going Deep and Dusty.

Native Instrument’s Amphibian Trails. Via Sydney’s multi-award winning experimental show Ears Have Ears, a mix by Berlin duo Native Instrument, a sound collaboration bringing together field recordings and abstract production, which has recently been released by Shelter Press. It features material from their new release, unreleased tracks, and a selection of their deep techno inspirations. Stream above.

Shanti Celeste Going Deep and Dusty. With records out on Idle Hands, Dekmantel and her own imprint, Chile-born DJ, producer and Peach Discs label boss Shanti Celeste selects an hour of club music. The mix expertly drifts from light, airy house and techno into deep, bass-heavy techno and lurching warehouse bangers. Stream and download above.

Martyn’s Hip Hop Special. Dutch producer and DJ Martyn, who’s known for his house and techno productions via 3024, Ninja Tune, Ostgut Ton, Brainfeeder and others, returns to his monthly show on NTS for two hours of classic rap and hip-hop. Tracks come from Public Enemy, Paris, Intelligent Hoodlum, Ultramagnetic MCs, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Mobb Deep and Raekwon. Stream above, track listing here.

Cosmic Slop Dripping into Dimensions. 80 minutes of “the most warped, mind-melting selections imaginable taken straight from the sound desk at Cosmic Slop, one of the UK’s best parties,” from CS residents Tom and Mike, in preparation for the next Dimensions festival; featuring dancehall, disco, dub and house tracks. Stream above.

Joseph Marinetti’s Universal Healing. LuckyMe-signed experimental club music producer Joseph Marinetti puts together a “moodboard” for the last track on his mixtape Universal Healing, and explains that “all these songs influenced the making of universal healing or were inspired by it”.
