Fracture Sounds has released Lighthouse Piano, the latest addition to their Signature Collection of artist-focused sample libraries, created in collaboration with long-term partner, composer, and producer Marcus Warner.
Lighthouse Piano captures the distinctive character of Marcus’ beautifully restored 1907 Blüthner Style VII grand piano, recorded in detail at his home studio. The instrument’s tone bridges the warmth of modern felt pianos with the clarity of a traditional concert grand – delicate and harp-like in the softer dynamics, yet open and bright when played with more force.
A standout feature of this library lies in its innovative sampling approach. The lower four dynamic layers were recorded using the una corda pedal, shifting the hammers to strike only two strings. This produces a thinner, more intimate tone with a muted, felt-like quality. The upper two dynamics were recorded normally, delivering a bright, resonant concert tone. Fracture Sounds says the result is a seamless tonal transition across the entire range – something that would be impossible to achieve on a physical piano, but made possible through careful sampling.
Lighthouse Piano includes Fracture Sounds’ signature performance tools, giving users deep control over tone and response. Adjustable velocity and timbre shaping ensure a natural feel on any MIDI keyboard, while the Atmosphere Layers, crafted by both Fracture Sounds and Marcus himself, extend the instrument into cinematic territory. These creative pads and textures allow composers to build entire scores from a single, versatile instrument.
Also included is a bonus instrument from Marcus’ personal collection – his custom harmonium, recorded with sustained drones designed to complement the piano. The two instruments are often used together in Marcus’ own work, including on his latest album Legendarium.
