The best Auto-Tune alternative is not the plugin with the longest feature list. It is the one that follows your singer reliably, runs at a latency you can monitor through, and gives you the control the session actually needs.
Quick answer: NEOTUNE Pro at $29.99 is the best value, because the correction sits beside clean-up, formants, vibrato, harmony, talkbox, FX and MIDI in one window, with 37 scales. Waves Tune Real-Time is $10 more and the more focused live tuner. MetaTune is the fastest workflow across stacked sessions. Graillon 3 is the best free starting point.
This list only ranks automatic tuners that correct a monophonic vocal in real time. Melodyne, RePitch, Little AlterBoy and vocoders solve different problems and are covered separately at the end rather than padding the ranking.
Disclosure: ProducerSources makes NEOTUNE Pro and sells several of the other plugins compared here. Prices were checked on September 26, 2026 and change often. The ranking criteria are stated in full below so you can weigh them yourself.

How to judge a real-time tuner
The useful question is not whether a plugin can move a clean sine wave. It is whether it stays on the intended fundamental when a real singer adds breath, consonants, vibrato, slides and room spill.
Detection stability. Most complaints about a tuner are complaints about its pitch detection. A noisy, rumbly take makes the tracker guess, and a tracker that guesses produces the warble people blame on the correction. See why does autotune sound warbly.
Latency you can monitor through. Check what your DAW reports with the plugin loaded at 44.1 and 48 kHz. Your audio buffer usually contributes more than the plugin does.
Scale coverage. Everyone ships the Western modes. Very few ship anything else, and if you work in a tradition using quarter tones that single fact decides your purchase.
What you still have to open afterwards. A corrected vocal is not a finished vocal. The cheapest tuner is not the cheapest result if you then buy a harmoniser, a doubler and a saturator.
1. NEOTUNE Pro – best value and the widest scope
$29.99, one payment.
Automatic key learning, correction amount, Speed from 0 to 400 ms, Note Transition, Flex and Humanise, with a live readout of the detected note, cents deviation and tracking state. At Speed 0 ms with Correction 100% you get the hard stepped effect; around 15 to 25 ms is transparent on most voices.
What separates it at this price is what surrounds the tuner, in the same window: clean-up for noise, hum and gating that runs before detection; six formant voices with shifting to 12 semitones either way and throat modelling; an eight-control vibrato section with onset delay; two scale-aware harmony voices plus doubler, unison and octaves; a ten-waveform talkbox; compression, drive and growl; and MIDI chord lock.
The scale system is the larger differentiator. 37 scales, 21 of them microtonal or non-Western, each defined by real cent offsets rather than rounded to the nearest piano key, plus per-note offsets you set yourself to a cent and a 430 to 450 Hz reference. Producers working outside twelve-tone equal temperament should still confirm the exact intonation with the performer, because a maqam or a raga is more than a preset. But being able to define targets between piano keys is something most mainstream tuners do not offer at all.
Choose it if you want to tune and finish a vocal without building a five-plugin chain. Skip it if you need note-by-note graphical editing. Pair it with a dedicated editor instead.
Formats: AU, VST3, VST2, AAX and a standalone app. macOS 10.13+ on Intel, 11.0+ on Apple Silicon, universal. Windows 10+, 64-bit. Licensed to one machine at a time, moveable from your account, and it keeps working offline on a grace period.

2. Slate MetaTune – best for speed across a stacked session

$149. On ProducerSources.
Built for automatic tuning rather than surgical editing. HeatMaps show where notes are landing, a negative Speed control pushes the hard-tuned sound past ordinary instant correction, and Groups let one change update several vocal instances at once. On a hook with eight stacked layers, changing the key once instead of opening every insert is a genuine time saving.
Skip it if you also need harmony, talkbox or a clean-up stage, because it does not replace those. At $149 it is nearly four times the price of the all-in-one option.
3. UAD Topline Vocal Tune – best for Apollo owners

$99.
Runs natively and on compatible Apollo DSP. Real-time correction, Key Finder, custom scale definition, formant and pitch shift, and MIDI repitching. Its Elastic, Expressive and Sustain controls are aimed at preserving slides, vibrato and held-note character rather than flattening them.
You do not need UAD hardware for the native version, but Apollo is the clearest reason to pick it for stage or tracking work. On ProducerSources.
4. Waves Tune Real-Time – the focused live tuner

$39.99 on Waves at the time of checking. Also stocked here: Waves Tune Real-Time.
A mature, low-latency automatic tuner: transparent or quantised correction, formant handling, vibrato controls and MIDI input. If a singer has to hear themselves corrected while performing, this is a serious answer and has been for years.
It is $10 more than NEOTUNE Pro, which is close enough that price should not decide it. This is a narrower tool that does its one job very well against a wider one. Its limitation is scope: it tunes, and it does not clean, harmonise, create talkbox tones or add character. Waves pricing moves a lot, so compare the checkout price rather than a crossed-out MSRP.

5. bx_crispytuner – automatic and graphical in one

$100 list, $19.99 sale observed.
Brainworx offers Simple, Advanced and Graphical modes, plus the bundled bx_crispyscale key detector. Live mode is described as zero latency, and graphical mode lets you draw detailed changes after recording. The breadth is impressive for the money, particularly on sale, though the interface is more than a beginner needs.
6. Softube Vocal Tuner – minimal and polished

EUR 199.
Classic and Modern algorithms, a sub-1 ms low-latency mode, and a deliberately small control set. If you find most tuners cluttered, this is the one that removes the clutter. The price is hard to justify against what else is on this list unless that simplicity is worth it to you.
7. Auburn Sounds Graillon 3 – best free

Free, $29 for the full edition.
Real correction at no cost, with a character of its own that plenty of producers use deliberately. The full edition adds microtuning. Low CPU, few controls, and genuinely enough for a lot of work.
Skip it if you need a clean-up stage before detection or anything after the correction. Start here, and buy when you find the specific thing it cannot do.
Tools people mistake for tuners
These come up constantly in this search and none of them is an automatic tuner. They have no key, no scale and no retune speed, because they are not correcting towards anything.
| Tool | What it actually does |
|---|---|
| Melodyne | Offline graphical editing of a recorded clip. Different job, often complementary |
| Synchro Arts RePitch 2 | Offline graphical editing. Elements $69, Standard $149 |
| Soundtoys Little AlterBoy | Shifts pitch and formants with drive. An effect |
| Waves OVox | Vocal resynthesis and vocoding |
| Vocoders generally | Filters a synth using the voice as a control signal |
If you want a robot voice or an octave-down monster, one of these is your answer and a tuner is not. PITCH FIEND is ours in that category.
Which should you actually buy
You want fewer plugins on the vocal channel. NEOTUNE Pro.
You sing live through the plugin and want nothing else. Waves Tune Real-Time, or Topline Vocal Tune if you run Apollo.
You tune twenty stacked layers a day. MetaTune, for the Groups.
You want both automatic and graphical from one purchase. bx_crispytuner, especially on sale.
You work in maqam, raga, gamelan or any just tuning. A very short list. See microtonal pitch correction.
You are not sure you need to pay. Graillon 3, then your DAW’s stock tuner. FL Studio’s Pitcher, Cubase’s Pitch Correct, Logic’s Pitch Correction and Reaper’s ReaTune are all real-time and already paid for.
Switching from Auto-Tune without relearning everything
| Auto-Tune | The equivalent elsewhere |
|---|---|
| Retune Speed | Speed. In NEOTUNE Pro, in milliseconds |
| Humanize | Humanise, or Flex, or both |
| Flex-Tune | Flex, a tolerance band around the target |
| Natural Vibrato | A vibrato section, or open Flex and keep the singer’s own |
| Throat Length | Throat, or formant shift |
| Key and Scale | Key and Scale, though the scale list differs most |
Whatever your Retune Speed was, start at the same number of milliseconds and adjust by ear. If the new plugin sounds worse on the same take, check detection before blaming the correction: roll off below 80 Hz, notch mains hum, and narrow the detection range to the singer’s register. That fixes most “this one is worse” impressions in under a minute. More in retune speed explained.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free Auto-Tune alternative? Graillon 3, then your DAW’s stock tuner, which you already own. Both do genuine real-time correction. Neither offers much before or after the tuning.
How much does Auto-Tune cost in 2026? AutoTune 2026 was $300 perpetual at the time of checking, and Auto-Tune Pro was $450 on our store page. Antares also sells monthly. Confirm current pricing before buying.
Is there an Auto-Tune alternative without a subscription? Yes. NEOTUNE Pro is a one-off $29.99, licensed to one machine at a time and moveable from your account. Graillon 3, MetaTune, Topline Vocal Tune and bx_crispytuner are also perpetual.
Is Little AlterBoy an Auto-Tune alternative? No. It is a pitch and formant shifter with drive. There is no key, no scale and no retune speed, so there is nothing for it to correct towards. Producers use it alongside a tuner for character, not instead of one.
Can a real-time tuner replace Melodyne? No, and vice versa. Real-time correction happens as the audio plays; Melodyne analyses a clip so you can edit it afterwards. Many engineers own both.
Do cheaper tuners sound worse? Not reliably. Price in this category tracks scope more than sound: what happens before detection, what happens after correction, and how many scales you get. Test on your own worst vocal before assuming.
Will these work in FL Studio, Ableton or Logic? Any that ships VST3 and AU will. NEOTUNE Pro ships AU, VST3, VST2, AAX and a standalone app, and files under Pitch Shift so it appears beside other tuners. FL Studio setup is in the best autotune plugin for FL Studio.
Which alternative handles Arabic, Turkish or Indian scales? Very few. Most tuners round every note to the nearest equal-tempered semitone, which flattens the intervals that define those traditions. See maqam and autotune.
NEOTUNE Pro is real-time pitch correction with harmony, talkbox and vibrato control built in: 37 scales, seven modules, five formats, one payment of $29.99. See the plugin.
