Ardour 9.5 has been released. The new version of the free/open-source DAW brings major MIDI editing improvements:
- Chord editing and quantization in pianoroll interfaces;
- Opening multiple regions for editing and displaying reference (ghost) notes;
- Stacked automation lanes in pianoroll;
- Cubase-style cross cursor, when drawing new notes or MIDI automation.
Also in this release:
- Region automation control points are now visible when you hover over a region.
- The summary pane got a revamp: it’s now thinner by default and has a sharper overview rendering and zoom controls on the right.
- Plugin views in the editor’s bottom pane can now be collapsed to quickly access frequently changed plugins.
- On the Mixer page, you can now access local and global track templates. Pick one and drop it onto an existing track to replace its processing.
- A community-contributed MCP server is now available for controlling Ardour from a locally running large language model. The primary use case is assisting users with vision impairment.
This release also contains dozens of bugfixes and minor improvements.
