accSone has announced a free update to crusher-X 12.30 featuring a new In-Grain Panner and a 24 dB ladder filter for the grains, along with automatic tab switching, an extended mapping editor and a reorganised Settings Tab.
The In-Grain Panner pans each grain during its runtime, either from one side to the other or from the center to both sides and back. Depth and direction are set by the Panner Grain Modulation, so every grain can receive a value of its own. In the Stereo and Multichannel modes the pan runs between left and right; in the immersive and Atmos modes it is applied on top of the 3D Panner.
The 24 dB Ladder switch in the grain Filter settings changes the Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Bandstop modes of the per-grain filter from 12 dB to a resonant 24 dB per octave ladder filter; it is stored with the Program and included in morphing.
The update also switches the editor to the tab of a parameter changed by host automation, MIDI, OSC or Adore/Macro, and adds a right-click menu to the mapping editor that moves MIDI mappings between the global and the Program list. Moves of a learned MIDI or OSC controller are now recorded as DAW automation, and the settings are sorted onto three pages. The release also corrects issues in X-Crush, DCO tuning, the curve editors, the mapping editor and Program handling, and resolves several rare freezes and crashes, including one of the Binaural Processor on Intel Macs.
Release Notes:
- Adds an In-Grain Panner in the Panner settings: every grain pans during its runtime – from one side to the other, or from the center out to both sides and back – as far and in the direction the Panner Grain Modulation is set; Big Mono and Generator Beam now sit on the same Panner settings page.
- Adds a 24 dB Ladder switch to the grain Filter settings: Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Bandstop then cut 24 dB per octave with a resonant ladder sound, and Bypass moves to the top of the Filter Mode list.
- Adds automatic tab switching: a parameter changed by host automation, MIDI, OSC or Adore/Macro brings up its grain modulation or edit tab – never while you hold the mouse, and not for 10 s after you let go.
- Adds a right-click menu to the list of the mapping editor: it holds the functions of the buttons above the list and moves MIDI mappings – the selected one or all of them – between the list stored global and the one stored with the Program.
- Fixes a learned MIDI or OSC controller’s moves not being recorded as DAW automation – the knobs it turns now record like a mouse move.
- Fixes a rare freeze or crash when host automation, a MIDI or OSC controller or an Adore knob changed the sound at the same moment as an edit in the editor, or reset a curve (as the Adore knob Spice does) – and a crash after a long session with a mapped MIDI or OSC controller.
- Fixes changes to a Program getting lost on switching to another Program after the host had saved the project or read the plug-in’s state.
- Fixes the DCO waveforms (Sin, Saw, Triangle, Rect, Spline) playing slightly sharp: they now sound exactly at the set frequency.
- Fixes button labels running over their switch, and switches and icons shifting by a pixel from row to row, at larger GUI Sizes (e.g. in the Settings tab).
- Fixes a rare crash or burst of noise on switching the Program or a DCO or GCO waveform while a DCO, or grains with GCO-Scan, were still playing a sample.
- Fixes X-Crush cracking when Length and Birth are moved from long grains to short overlapping ones, and now and then on grains that overlap steadily – and its harsh bursts although the grains are shorter than their Birth time: when the number of Generators is reduced, and when G-Offset is moved.
- Fixes Generators staying silent after the number of Generators was taken down and up again while long grains were still playing.
- Fixes Speed, Filter-Cut and GCO-Pitch in the MIDI Arp and MIDI Oct modes taking an arbitrary value while no MIDI key is held (e.g. before the first note) – they now rest at normal speed and at the base note.
- Fixes the curve editors: dragging the first point of a curve (e.g. Sweep, Overdrive) was only heard after the next edit, and dragging a point already on a curve was no Undo step and did not mark the Program as changed.
- Fixes the curve editors cutting off scale numbers and the edges of the curve, the more so the larger the GUI Size.
- Fixes a Program’s ADSR Sustain level and the end of its Decay curve sometimes coming from the Program played before it.
- Fixes the SideChain input level of a Program jumping back to full on every load – a Program saved from now on keeps its level.
- Fixes the Program name in the editor not following when a Program is exported under a new file name.
- Fixes Reset in the Top Bar leaving Generator Beam where it was – it now goes back to 0 like Big Mono.
- Fixes Copy and Cut in the Program menu taking the Program as last stored, without the changes just made to it.
- Fixes Export Bank in the Program menu leaving out the changes just made to the current Program.
- Fixes Import in the compressor and envelope follower curve editor failing with an error instead of loading the curve file.
- Fixes the mapping editor list no longer selecting the entry of a moved MIDI controller once you had clicked into it – it now only waits 10 seconds after your last edit there, and OSC controllers leave the selection alone.
- Fixes Programs made with an older crusher-X (e.g. Generative_XY PM Scan) picking up grain modulation from the Program played before them.
- Fixes Min and Max of a mapping no longer reaching beyond their current values once the value fader of the Mapping page had been moved on it – they can be set over the control’s whole range again.
- Fixes Clear and load all in the mapping editor taking only the visible list from a mapping file – it now replaces every list with the file’s.
- Fixes old mappings staying in the lists when the host restores the plug-in’s state (a project, a preset) after a mapping file had been loaded in the mapping editor.
- Improves the Settings Tab: the settings are sorted onto three pages – Global, Instance and Connectors – picked from a tab list on its left side.
- Improves internal message handling, so moving faders keeps the engine less busy.
- Improves very dense grain settings: a Birth far below the grain Length no longer moves the Birth fader and no longer drops grains – the grains come at the fastest rate the generators can carry.
- macOS: Fixes a crash on switching on the Binaural Processor on Intel Macs, and on Apple Silicon when the host or the standalone runs under Rosetta.
- Standalone: Adds command line options that move parameters while a patch plays (-moveparam) and set the output level (-outvolume).
The update is free for crusher-X 12 licensees: it is installed by following the download instructions of the crusher-X delivery mail again. The challenge/response registration is not repeated if it was already completed with crusher-X 12.
crusher-X 12 is available as full version for 369 € and as upgrade/crossgrade from crusher-X 11 or any earlier version for 149 € (both incl. VAT; VAT is removed for customers outside the EU).
