Ableton Cancels Loop Over COVID-19 Virus Concerns

In the latest cancellation to affect the music industry, Ableton has announced that it is rescheduling its Loop summit for April 2021.

The music industry took another hit yesterday. As music festival and conference season looms, a number of brands and festivals are cancelling or rescheduling their spring gatherings. In the latest cancellation, Berlin-based DAW maker Ableton announced today that it is rescheduling its Loop summit for April 2021.

Following the cancellation or postponement of other music festivals and industry gatherings like South by Southwest (SXSW), Coachella, and Miami’s Winter Music Conference, Ableton is postponing its annual Loop summit. In an announcement posted today on the DAW maker’s website, Ableton stated that it plans to reschedule Loop for April 2021.

Even before Ableton decided to cancel Loop, the Berlin Health Administration had already announced a ban on large-scale gatherings until mid-April 2020. But Ableton wasn’t confident it could ensure the health of festival-goers.

“Given the international nature of our event, we are not confident that we can ensure well-being to a level that is acceptable for us to deliver Loop in six weeks’ time,” said Ableton. “We are deeply saddened to be forced to take this step but consider it essential in the face of the ongoing viral outbreak, and the guidance we have received from authorities.”

“Alongside health considerations, we’re mindful of travel restrictions/cancellations as the situation develops globally,” the company added. “We cannot accept a Loop that is any less than what you expect from us, and we do not want to push forward at the expense of those who cannot make it through no fault of their own.”

Those with tickets for Loop 2020 can either receive a new ticket for the April 2021 edition or receive a full refund (minus Eventbrite’s booking fee). Ticketholders will be emailed over the next few weeks with more details.

Ableton is currently working with partners on confirming the new date. The company hopes to announce Loop’s 2021 edition in the coming weeks.
