Universal Audio Releases UAD Empirical Labs FATSO Tape Simulator – Native Versions for macOS and Windows

Universal Audio has released native versions of UAD Empirical Labs FATSO Tape Simulator for macOS and Windows. Developed in collaboration with Empirical Labs founder and FATSO designer Dave Derr, the two plug-ins combine tape-style saturation and compression based on the original analog hardware.

The release includes FATSO Jr and FATSO Sr. FATSO Jr offers the original tape simulation and compression processing, while FATSO Sr adds deeper compression controls and features beyond the hardware.

Features:

  • Four compression modes: Buss, G.P., Tracking, and Spank.

  • Tape-style saturation for subtle harmonic coloration or heavier distortion.

  • Sidechain filtering, variable transformer saturation, and additional compression parameters in FATSO Sr.

Pricing and Availability

Available now for macOS and Windows at an introductory price of $79 USD through December 31, 2026 (regularly $149 USD). Current owners of the Apollo DSP version can upgrade to the native version for $2.99 USD.

The plug-ins are also included in UAD Spark Studio, UA’s subscription to its full native plug-in library.
