Previously available only as a native plug-in, UAD Topline Vocal Tune now ships with both Native and Apollo DSP versions, making it the only UAD plug-in capable of realtime pitch-shifting on UA hardware.
The DSP version runs on Apollo’s onboard processing, delivering pitch correction and creative pitch effects during tracking at near-zero latency and at any DAW buffer size. Singers monitoring through headphones hear corrected audio without the delay common to native monitoring chains. Users can switch between the Native and DSP versions inside the LUNA Recording System without losing parameter settings, a workflow that previously required manually recreating settings or bypassing the plug-in.
The addition of DSP support addresses a gap in UAD’s Apollo lineup: until now, realtime pitch correction during recording required native processing or a third-party solution outside the UAD ecosystem. Running pitch correction on Apollo’s DSP allows producers to include it in a monitored tracking chain alongside other UAD processing, such as preamp emulations and channel strips, without placing additional load on the host CPU.
Topline Vocal Tune covers the range from transparent correction to the hard-tuned vocal effect common in hip-hop, R&B, and pop. A single tuning dial controls correction intensity, while Elastic, Expressive, and Sustain settings govern how the plug-in responds to natural vocal articulations like slides and vibrato.
The plug-in includes a Shift Mode with independent Pitch and Formant controls for pitch-based sound design beyond standard correction. A MIDI Repitch function retunes incoming vocal audio in realtime to notes played via MIDI, supporting melody and harmony generation from a live vocal performance. The built-in Key Finder detects key and scale automatically, with manual override and a MIDI Scale Define mode for custom scale building. UA notes the Apollo DSP version also supports live performance use, operating without a running DAW session.
