Leit Audio has released Evil Clown, a free creative audio effect for macOS, Windows and Linux that turns incoming sound into the unstable machinery of a broken, possessed sideshow.
Evil Clown transforms the source fed into it. Three character controls shape different parts of the effect:
- SNARL gives the sound a distorted, overdriven character with rasp, heavy breakup and a broken-speaker-like edge.
- LURCH introduces mechanical wow, flutter and drift.
- CURSE adds moving dissonant voices, resonances and stronger possession events that appear over time.
The three processes are designed to interact as parts of the same machine rather than as separate effects in series. The result can range from slightly warped and unstable to heavily dissonant and hostile, while still retaining the character of the original source.
Evil Clown can be used on synths, pianos, guitars, bass, vocals, drums and other source material, as well as for transitions, horror and game sound design, or any production that needs a deliberately broken mechanical character.
