Empirical Labs announces the release of ParaDyn

Empirical Labs has announced the release of ParaDyn, a four-section dynamic parametric EQ plug-in. Derived from the core technology of the company’s big FrEQ, ParaDyn incorporates two fully configurable dynamics modules (DYN) within its first and fourth sections, expanding its utility from standard equalization to comprehensive spectral dynamics processing.

The equalization sections support multiple filter shapes, including distinctive “flat-top” curves that allow for broad boosts or cuts without excessive resonance at the filter edges. The DYN modules offer three distinct modes: Dyn EQ, Dyn Mask, and Compress. In Dyn EQ mode, the plug-in functions as a standard dynamic equalizer. The Dyn Mask mode utilizes a spectral detection algorithm—similar to the technology found in the hardware DerrEsser—to reduce processing when target frequencies are already masked by surrounding material.

The Compress mode decouples the dynamics module from the EQ band, transforming the section into a full-bandwidth compressor featuring the company’s signature knee compression. This configuration allows ParaDyn to serve as a modular channel strip, providing EQ, de-essing, and compression within a single interface.

Key Features

  • Four Parametric Sections: Based on big FrEQ algorithms with Slope control for flat-top band shapes.
  • Advanced Dynamics (Sections 1 & 4): Three modes including standard Dynamic EQ and full-bandwidth Compression.
  • Dyn Mask Technology: Intelligent masking detection to maintain natural frequency balance during gain reduction.
  • Focus Mode: Centers the selected frequency and narrows the knob range for precision fine-tuning.
  • Range Extension: Toggles the gain range from ±15dB to ±30dB for more aggressive processing.
  • Modular Workflow: Capable of functioning as an EQ, de-esser, and compressor simultaneously.

Pricing & Availability.

The Empirical Labs ParaDyn is available now for $39.00 USD. It was launched with an introductory price of $19.00 USD (available for 30 days post-release). A 15-day fully functional trial is available.
