Chandler Limited, in collaboration with Abbey Road Studios, has announced the release of the REDD Mixing System, a fully modular console designed to integrate various eras of EMI recording circuitry into a single, user-configurable format. This marks the first release of an EMI recording console in over 50 years.
Developed over six years by Chandler Limited founder Wade Goeke and Abbey Road’s Head of Audio Products Mirek Stiles, the system allows engineers to combine REDD, TG, and RS channels and busses in a custom configuration. The design is intended to scale from home studio setups to large control rooms, mounting into standard racks (requires 12u space) or studio furniture.
The console is 100% hardwired and hand-assembled, utilizing transformer-balanced inputs and outputs. A key aspect of the architecture is the ability to intermix tube and solid-state “cassettes” (modules). The system eschews surface mount components, ribbon cables, and PC mount switches in favor of hand-soldered PCBs and eyelet-style switching.
Input Cassette Options:
-
TG2-Style: Class A preamp combined with a 4-band Curvebender EQ.
-
REDD: All-tube mic pre/EQ with switchable Pop and Classic EQ curves.
-
MKI TG: Featuring germanium transistors based on 1969 TG desks (scheduled for Q4 2026 release).
Buss Cassette Types:
-
Solid State: Class A, TG2-style buss circuit.
-
Tube: Buss utilizing a new RS61 type circuit.
Each Buss Cassette features a wet/dry mix on the stereo buss, NAB/IEC stereo buss EQ, and pre-amp style gain controls for buss driving. A distinct feature of the system is the inclusion of low-level inserts on each send, allowing for direct re-amplification or the insertion of guitar pedals without external re-amp boxes.
Additional System Features:
-
Expander Cassette: Adds 12 Class A TG2-style circuits with 4 Busses and 4 Sends per channel.
-
Master Buss: Stereo channel master cassette with wet/dry mix and switchable insert point.
-
Control Room: Switching for three speaker sets, talkback functionality, and discrete op-amp headphone and speaker outputs.
-
Faders: Newly designed vintage-style faders with LED backlighting.
