23DSP releases Orbitail – Space-Themed Reverb (VST3/AU)

Independent developer Marco Allegretti (23DSP) has released Orbitail, a new creative reverb plugin designed around astrophysical concepts. Orbitail combines established algorithmic reverb structures with modulation, shimmer processing, and stereo field control to provide a tool that moves between traditional ambience and more experimental sonic spaces.

Five Reverb Modes

At the core of Orbitail are five distinct algorithms:

  • Black Hole – long, dense tails with a sense of gravitational pull.
  • Supernova – bright, explosive reflections with evolving modulation.
  • Mars – a more controlled space with drier diffusion characteristics.
  • Asteroid Belt – multi-layered, scattered reflections for irregular patterns.
  • Nebula – smooth, expansive textures with soft modulation.

Each mode adjusts parameters such as size, density, tone, and chaotic behavior to create a distinct spatial identity.

Modulation and Shimmer

Orbitail introduces orbit-based modulation, adding movement across the stereo field for reverb tails that evolve over time. A dedicated shimmer section extends the spectrum with octave-up content, paired with adjustable brightness filtering to control the harmonic lift.

Workflow and Controls

The plugin provides input/output gain staging, dry/wet balance, and diffusion control, making it adaptable to different workflows. It can be used in subtle ways to add depth to a mix, or more radically to build evolving textures and cinematic ambiences.

Applications

Orbitail is aimed at a wide range of audio work:

  • Mixing – adding dimension to vocals, drums, or instruments.
  • Sound Design – creating expansive atmospheres and experimental reverbs.
  • Post-Production – shaping immersive and cinematic environments.

Pricing & Availability

Beta version 0.5 of Orbitail is available now through Gumroad for $10 for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU plugin formats.
