idealism has released hetki, a piano instrument built around a single 1908 Steinway Model O recorded at Greystoke Studio, London.
hetki holds about 5,100 recorded samples at 96 kHz/24-bit from three mic positions (close, overhead and room), with six velocity layers, up to three round robins, recorded releases, and sustain-pedal and una corda banks. Four piano-noise layers (the sustain pedal, the keys going down and coming back up, the pianist moving, and the felt) each have their own level, and the room, vinyl and tape noise floors are recordings.
It comes with ten presets. Four are the piano itself. Six are textures: the piano at half speed on tape, at quarter speed on a crackling old record, an ambient pad played from the keys, two felt-piano textures, and a slow blend of piano tremolo, synth pad, guitars and a Rhodes.
The interface is hand-drawn, with MIDI learn on the round knobs. The sound library, about 10 GB, downloads from inside the plugin after the licence is entered.
Price: €24.99 including VAT as VST3, AU and standalone for macOS 10.15 or later (Apple silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11 64-bit. A seven-day trial of the full instrument is available.
The licence is a key file checked offline; it never expires and covers one person on every computer they use.
Recorded at Greystoke Studio, London. Engineered by Andy Whitmore.
