Matari Audio has updated BUFFR, a cross-platform retrospective audio and MIDI recorder designed to recover performances beyond the currently armed DAW track, to v0.5.81.
BUFFR continuously captures the computer’s System Audio and can open a hardware MIDI controller directly through Global MIDI. It does not need to sit on the track being played, and no DAW MIDI routing or track arming is required.
This allows BUFFR to recover audio from browsers, standalone instruments and other applications, as well as controller performances played while the wrong track—or no track—was armed.
Selections are not locked inside BUFFR. Audio, MIDI and Spectral Grab results can be dragged into another BUFFR instance, any DAW, the desktop, a file manager, or another application that accepts normal file drops.
This cross-platform drag-out system is powered by Matari Audio’s open-source audio-plugin-dnd protocol. It uses native platform drag-and-drop backends and includes waveform or spectral previews beneath the pointer.

BUFFR 0.5.81 is available now as a free public beta for macOS, Windows and Linux in VST3 and CLAP formats. A free account and online activation are required; no payment card is needed.
Beta licenses remain valid until the public beta ends. No end date has been announced.
