Quantastical Sound has released version 2.3 of STRÄNG, a subtractive synthesizer built around a single idea: real-time convolution running inside the voice itself.
STRÄNG takes the bones of a classic subtractive synth, one core oscillator with its helpers and filters that bite, and gives it a physical body. Every note resonates through a short, tonal convolution body, like a tone ringing through real material, and that body is where the character comes from. It is not a reverb on top, it is part of the sound. The body varies per note, so repeated notes breathe instead of repeating identically. The Corridor reverb engine is built in as the room around the note.
New in version 2.3 is STRING, a physically modelled exciter that plucks a Karplus-Strong string or modal ping straight into the convolution body. Subtle amounts add attack life to pads, full amounts turn STRÄNG into a plucked instrument resonating through its own body.
Version 2.3 also adds full MPE support with per-note pressure routed to volume or the modulation matrix, a preset pack system with import, export and the .strangpack format, bipolar modulation depths with FM and both LFOs as targets, a pitch envelope, compressor attack and release controls, and a major GUI performance fix on Windows.
